Good evening from Askole Pakistan. It’s about 8:30 p.m. Here. And I know many of you were anticipating a journal post but we hit a little snafu yesterday when I got food poisoning and I was luckily the first one of the trip. So it seems like this is complete these days, especially after last year in the fall when I got food poisoning the first week, but yeah, I spent about 18 hours of bed and now I feel about 98% So I’m up and running again. I did get the modem fired up. As soon as we got into Askole, but I didn’t have a chance to shut the post out. I was just running a little bit behind. Anyway, today was a fun filled Jeep ride through these ravines. It looks something straight out of Indiana Jones. It was fantastic except for the diesel fumes and dust coating. So if that doesn’t kill me, I don’t know what will it was pretty cool has I’ll have some videos and pictures from that. It was about 7 hours on the bumpy road imaginable and finally made it here around 4:30 p.m. Had a good dinner, plan is we’re going to pack up tomorrow around 5:30 a.m. We’ve got about 12 miles of vertical gain. So I were thinking 6/7 hours if I came tomorrow and that’ll knock out just over an eighth of the trek to K2 base camp. Terrain, here’s pretty beautiful all the dust really fun people. So anyway, stay tuned. I will get a journal here sooner or later. Not as easy as Everest, but I swear that we’ll get it figured out. I hope everyone’s doing well back home, or where you’re listening from. Thank you for all the love and support. Talk to you soon. Bye.
Great to hear from you bud and it’s always nice to have these little reminders that you ARE actually a human! 🙂 Also, great news that you got the modem fired up and running… I’m so glad everything is off to a relatively smooth start and keep sending you positive vibes!
Onward and upward,
BFL
John, I love the spacious and cozy dormitories of Askole. Civilization ends at Askole. No more comforts of mudden walls. From here on out it’s upward. Say hi to Geoff, Garrett, Jesse, Phurba and Siddhi for me! I miss you guys! Love, Dad
Such a small thing
But oh so important, glad it was just a short bout
I will add safe food to my prayers
Stay well
Thanks for the news “flash” about the food poisoning (slight pun intended). Since you have checked that one off your to-do list, you can move on to the next item (and forget about repeats). Todd is here visiting with us, and it is great to hear some first hand stories re the Bryce trek the three of you enjoyed in April! Love to you and say Hi to the rest of the crew from Aunt Rita!!
You are on my mind constantly!!!!!! Hope you recuperate quickly!
Julie was here for the weekend … she just left to go home!!!! I miss you already!
Love you,
Mom
