That is fantastic news! You probably haven’t processed all of it yet, but continue to stay focused and get down safely and then you can have some fun and celebrate. I’m so proud of you. I sometimes brag about you and your sister so it is good to have a new story. Can’t wait to see you. Congratulations to the entire Madison Mountaineering team!
Oh John!!! It’s so great to see your hard work and training for this day get you to the top. I have no doubt that it was equally as much, if not more, the fire and heart within that helped you take your final steps up. I am amazed by your fortitude throughout the entire journey! Congratulations on this major life accomplishment, John. Prayers for a safe descent and travels home to you and your team!
I spoke with John on his satellite phone when he reached the summit. It was very emotional to say the least!!! I am so very proud of him……I know that he drives us all crazy sometimes, but he is a good kid and has good heart and is stubborn enough to conquer 3 of the highest mountains in the world!!!! Now we just need to get the word that he is down safely and coming home to us!
Patty,
You couldn’t have said it better – he’s definitely a good kid with a good heart! He can be very stubborn, but is absolutely extraordinary. Words can’t describe the emotions and I can’t wait until he makes it down and returns home safely – I miss his craziness. YOU as a mother have been an amazing demonstration of what love, strength, and perseverance is through this entire journey…
Congratulations JOHN! It’s been a great achievement! But don’t relax yet. Get down safely. Congratulations to the entire team also…and to the entire Stenderup family. I almost called Verner at 10 pm not knowing JOHN had submitted and being driven crazy by the GPS spots. Anyway this is all beyond belief. Prayers answered. Gene Lundquist
Congratulations John !
Wow, I have loved following your journey and am so proud you made it to the top safely. You’ve accomplished what so few people have ever done and it’s quite astonishing. I hope you have a safe journey down and god bless!
Congratulations to John and the entire team.
The pictures at Madisonmountaining are great

Congratulations! Amen and Hallelujah!!! Such good news and so glad Mother Nature greeted you with clear skies and all her raw beauty. But most of all thank God for watching over you and hearing all of our prayers. Now let us know when you get back to the camp and then get some well deserved rest. P.S. Uncle Bruce would like to know what’s on the menu for the celebration dinner?
John and team all our prayers were answered and the mountain agreed. Your collective wisdom and skill as climbers with your respect for the mountain rewarded you with what so very few have experienced. I truly believe because as a Team you were willing to let it go if the signs and circumstances weren’t right that you were give this moment. I think that’s a life lesson to be able to want something so hard but also know there is always a time and place for which letting it go is part of journey. God Bless to each of you❤️
Congratulations John and all of the climbers! It has been so exciting following your journey up the mountain! My mom and dad (Glen and Eilene Krauter) send their congratulations too! Continuing to pray for your entire teams safe return. Thanks for sharing your journals with us.
Tillykke John,
We are all so very proud of you and your team and pray for your trip back down the Mountain. Will go to Church now, where they also have been praying for you and the whole team. Just had your Dad here for breakfast, Farfar’s famous oatmeal pancakes. See you soon and tell the rest of the team congratulations from me.
Love you, Farmor
I know your Mom and Dad and have heard about your wonderful adventures and accomplishments through them. I saw your Mom on Monday and was able to share lunch with her. I told her I would be praying for you and have watched your progress all week.
Congratulations! More prayers for a safe descent and return home to family and friends!
Thanks for the good night’s sleep John. I needed it and I hope you soon get a good night’s sleep too. We want you rested and alert. I don’t know, I looked at the pictures on the Madison website and that hike didn’t look too difficult. Were you up front so that you could tramp down the snow with those big feet of yours? I’m looking forward to seeing your pictures and hearing your tales.
I hope you are continuing safely down the path that leads you all the way back to Weedpatch. Don’t let that Polish skier pass you up. Love ya!
Way to go John!!! What an accomplishment. We are so proud of you. Now get down safely and we will definitely be celebrating when you get back home.
